Summer is coming, and all the best of Carolina and Kure Beaches awaits your family. Are you ready to start planning what to do with the family? This week we have all the best budget-friendly things to do and see. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have an awesome fun-packed family vacation. Here are the best budget-friendly family

Game Night 

Games teach kids important lessons like following the rules, sportsmanship, and taking turns. Chances are they’ll have so much fun playing; they won’t even realize they’re learning. You probably already have some family favorites at home, but if not, you can find some inexpensive board or card games that you can play again and again. With a little creativity, there’s no limit to what you can do to have fun as a family. These are just a few ideas, but we want to hear from you. What are your favorite family activities? Picnic at the Park or Beach 

With video games, computers, and other electronic devices, kids spend less time outside than in previous years. According to a study, one out of two kids spends less than an hour a day outside! Kure and Carolina Beach have the cure for this. Plan an activity that allows you to get outside as a family. You can pack your favorite foods and snacks and plan a picnic, or head to the beach for some fun in the sun. While outside, you can read or tell stories, play games (board games or outdoor games), sing songs, build a sandcastle or clean up the beach or park. Aside from food, gas, and sunscreen, there’s little else you need to pay for, so you can shell out some cash for a football, beach ball, or frisbee. Need the perfect location? Try Freeman Park which is the perfect place for a family picnic. 

DIY Scavenger Hunt 

You can do this at a park or on the beach! Hide a few things for the kids to find or make your landmarks things that already exist in nature like trees, types of flowers, dunes, driftwood, etc. Give your kids the list of items and let them have some fun and friendly competition. Enjoy A Free Activity

Carolina and Kure Beach host several free activities throughout the season that are perfect for the family. Plus, like we said they are free! Sea Shell Hunt

It’s a fact that thousands of eclectic seashells dot the beaches of the North Carolina coast.  Seashell hunting is a true family activity, as you can spend an entire day collecting colorful shells like a treasure hunt.  Perhaps you’ll spot a rare perfectly shaped sand dollar or a compelling cockle shell. Maybe you’ll score a Scotch Bonnet — the official state seashell of North Carolina. There are several different ways to dial up the excitement and adventure even more when seeking seashells. You can turn it into a competition to see who can collect the seashells with the most unique shapes, colors, and patterns, or ones with holes ready-made for a necklace or bracelet. Or, you can collect specific shells for a particular art project like constructing a picture frame or making a shadow box to bring back to your home. 

Fly A Kite With The Kids

Sure, those tropical breezes are Mother Nature’s air conditioning on a warm day at the beach. But the breeze is also great for flying a kite. Everyone from the young to the young-at-heart loves to look upward and see something soar, so pick out a colorful kite and let your imagination take flight. Kites have come a long way in recent years, and today’s kites range from the traditional with a simple body and a tail, to performance kites that do flips and other mesmerizing moves. Kites with streamers and tails always seem to catch the attention of everyone around, so toss out a kite and hold on tight. You are in control.

Hit The Road On The Bikes

Carolina and Kure Beaches are the perfect places for a fun two-wheeled family adventure. Whether you bring your own bikes or rent them hitting the road is a great way to spend the day with the family. Our local roads are cycling friendly. You can even combine this with the scavenger hunt! Don’t forget to wear a helmet.
