What You Might Reel in During Your Time on the Water

Every time you make it a point to enjoy fall fishing in North Carolina, you’ll be thrilled to discover that the options for what you might reel in are vast and varied. Here, there’s every possibility that your time casting a line could see you catching everything from striped bass and speckled trout to bluefish and flounder alike. Anglers are also known to reel in both King and Spanish mackerel this time of year around the piers, while red drum is abundant around Masonboro Inlet. If it’s black drum or mahi mahi you’re after, you might just be lucky enough to catch those here as well, while offshore charters can lead to blue marlin thriving further out in deeper open waters.

Fishing Regulations to Keep in Mind Before Casting a Line

When you choose to enjoy fall fishing in North Carolina around Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, you’ll want to make sure that anyone in your group 16 and older has acquired a Coastal Recreational Fishing License ahead of time. This is something that’s typically needed for surf, pier, and boat fishing alike. The one exception would be if you have plans to exclusively fish from the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, where the cost of a license is already included with your admission fee to the fishing locale.

Some of the prohibited species in the area include Atlantic Sturgeon, red snapper, whale shark, sand tiger sharks, and River Herring. There are also strict size limit and bag limit restrictions in place for red drum, speckled trout, black drum, Spanish and King Mackerel, as well as Bluefish and Flounder that can be verified online at the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. This is also where anglers can purchase a fishing license ahead of their travels.
