Summertime is upon us here on the Cape Fear coast, meaning it’s also one of the best times to visit! While most visitors are familiar with the area’s quiet, sandy beaches and lush maritime forests, it’s also home to some pretty spectacular local events. Along with the summer events you’d come to expect, such as 4th of July Fireworks and farmers’ markets, Carolina Beach and its surrounding area offer plenty more in terms of local events where you can enjoy the company of the local coastal community. Enjoy Fireworks by the Sea and Boardwalk Blast
All throughout the summer, you can enjoy fun nights along the boardwalk filled with music, fireworks, and community. Fireworks by the Sea and Boardwalk Blast takes place between Memorial Day and Labor Day on Thursdays. The boardwalk turns into a festive concert hall, with a series of acts set to play at the Gazebo stage! Music usually starts at around 6 PM, with fireworks starting later in the night, around 9.
Shop at the Carolina Beach Market
Meet with the community’s local growers, farmers, and vendors, and explore the abundant selection while hearing live local music at the Carolina Beach Market. Along with fruits and vegetables, customers can also shop a wide variety of dairy products, meats, wines, and more, allowing you the chance to cook up a nice family meal back at your rental! Market days are on Saturdays and run from around May to October. Head over to the market to browse a whole host of goods with live music, with the rest of Carolina Beach.
Catch a Movie with Free Summer Movies at the Lake
Every Sunday, throughout the summer, you can head to Carolina Beach Lake Park for a free, exciting movie and get a sense of community. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to view the film on the massive outdoor screen. Concessions such as popcorn, soda, and candy will be available for purchase at the park. Just be sure to grab your snacks before dusk, as that’s when the show begins.
Family Fun with Family Night at the Lake
Check out this other recurring event by the lake to get the best experience with Carolina Beach’s local community. Family Night at the Lake takes place every Tuesday from mid-June through July, featuring free entertainment and family-friendly activities from 6 to 8 PM. Stop by earlier in the event to catch a presentation from the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project to learn about the area’s local wildlife!
Dance the Night Away at Kure Beach’s Boogie in the Park
Just a town over in Kure Beach is where you’ll find the beloved Boogie in the Park concert series! Sing along to classic hits out in the sun. On the first and third Sundays from May to October (outside of holiday weekends), the town will see another musical act over at Ocean Front Park. Bring a lawn chair and your group to enjoy this family-friendly concert series that’s sure to have something for everyone, with genres ranging from rock to funk to pop.
Explore the Kure Beach Market
One last market pick, although once again, this one can be found in Kure Beach (as the name would suggest). This charming open-air market features handmade artisan crafts for you to browse. Even if you don’t plan on spending any money here, the Kure Beach Ocean Front Park Pavilion makes for a great place to window shop or simply relax with an incredible ocean view off in the distance.
Learn about Wildlife at Turtle Talk
Explore this educational experience all about the area’s favorite marine creatures! Turtle Talk features live sessions to learn all about nesting sea turtles in and around Kure Beach. Speakers will dive into their habitats and life cycles while offering tips on how we, as humans, can protect them and make their lives easier. Talks are held from June to August, on Mondays at 7 PM, at Ocean Front Park Pavilion.
