It’s heating up outside and summer is just a little over 50 days away. If you are a local beachgoer or just visiting the Carolina Beach area, consider picking up a new sport : surfing. It is a way of life for the locals on the southern coast of the Carolinas. When the weather gets warm and the waves get higher, that is the best time to catch the wave of a the long-popular sport.
Surfing is not just for the Pacific coast or Hawaiian islands. North Carolina beaches enjoy beautiful sunny weather and big waves too during the summer months. It is also pretty hot in the south, so anything you can do in the water is that much more enjoyable. Surfing is one of the oldest practiced sport and is a blend of athleticism and the art of understanding the ocean better.
Carolina Beach and the surrounding area offer the opportunity to learn the sport from professional surfer, Tony Silvagni. He has been a professional surf coach for 10 years but has an award-winning past of competition for an additional decade. Tony and his team of nine other pro surfers offer private, group and advanced lessons in surfing. In addition to their surf lesson options, they also teach paddle boarding and feature kayak tours and surf parties. It doesn’t get much better than spending the day with the pros learning how to conquer the waves. The Carolina Beach Surf Camp is a great way to spend a week of your time if you are really serious about learning the ins and outs of the sport. The camp is offered April through September.
