The secret, that a Carolina or Kure Beach vacation is the perfect way to celebrate summer with your family.

Nestled along the North Carolina coast you’ll find three unique beaches that we like to call Pleasure Island. This hidden gem has been a favorite destination for those who are “in the know” about the best beaches on the North Carolina coast.  Comprised of Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Fort Fisher, these three towns are the perfect place for your next family-friendly beach vacation. Today we will pull back the curtain and let you in on the secret that so many other families have discovered over the years. The secret, that a Carolina or Kure Beach vacation is the perfect way to celebrate summer with your family.

Easy To Get To

One of the best things about a Kure or Carolina Beach vacation is the ease in which you can get there. Pleasure Island is located within an easy drive of Raleigh, Charlotte, Charleston, Atlanta, and D.C. Don’t worry about needing an expensive flight. Of course, if you wish to fly, we are conveniently located only 30 minutes away from Wilmington, International Airport which offers lots of daily flight options.

So Much To Do & See

Of course, being easy to get to is all well and good, but why is Pleasure Island so amazing? We’re glad you asked. Perhaps more than any other place on the North Carolina coast, Pleasure Island offers visitors an unrivaled amount of family-friendly events, beaches, and activities to enjoy.

Any beach vacation must include great beaches. Kure and Carolina Beach have miles of pristine beaches that are perfect for families to enjoy. Each beach has its own character, but all are well maintained, safe and filled with the beautiful warm water that the North Carolina coast is famous for.  Of course, there are opportunities here on Pleasure Island that you won’t find anywhere else. Freeman Park is the perfect example of one of the best beaches you’ll ever visit. In fact, Freeman Park’s beaches have become one of Carolina Beach’s major attractions.  Whether you want to spend your day swimming, camping, fishing, crabbing or casting for minnows, Freeman Park is the ultimate family beach. Don’t forget your sunscreen!

Unique Attractions

Make sure to check out our previous post: 10 Unique Things To Do In Kure Beach for loads of great ideas on unique things to do and see here on Kure beach. Perhaps one of our most famous attractions and a favorite of kids and adults alike is the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. This is truly a destination in itself. A painstakingly restored gem that harkens back to slower times when doors were never locked and neighbors looked out for each other’s kids. If you’re looking for that bit of nostalgia, with the smell of cotton candy in the air and swirling lights of the Ferris wheel in the night sky, then the Carolina Beach Boardwalk is reason enough to visit us. Awesome Adventures Await You

One of the great advantages of a Pleasure Island beach vacation is the location. For those adventurous types, or those just looking to explore this unique region of the North Carolina coast, Pleasure Island provides the perfect place to start your journey. Wilmington is just minutes down the road.

Wilmington Riverwalk if shopping, dining and a leisurely stroll along the lovely Wilmington waterfront is your idea of a nice day-trip then you’ll love the Wilmington Riverwalk. It features locations like the Cotton Exchange and the historic Murchison Building. It is almost impossible to name all the boutique shops and restaurants along the waterfront. A really fun thing to do is to take the water taxi across the river to the USS North Carolina after your tour of the Riverwalk.

Airlie Gardens consists of 67 acres of beautifully manicured formal gardens. The grounds include meandering walking paths that allow visitors to take in all the beauty of one of the premier gardens of the coastal south. However, there is so much more. Take time to look at the historic structures and sculptures. The Gardens hold events throughout the year from yoga to bird-watching activities.

USS North Carolina allows visitors the unique opportunity to step back in time and tour a perfectly restored and maintained World War II Battleship. Kids will love hearing from the crew exploring all the different parts of the ship. Located right downtown, this is an easy day-trip from Carolina or Kure Beach. Make sure to check out their website for different activities held on the battleship each year.

Amazing Local Restaurants

If you’re like us, a big part of any vacation is access to great local restaurants. Pleasure Island is a foodie paradise. We can’t talk about food on Carolina and Kure Beach without first talking about the incredible local seafood. From fried flounder to shrimp and grits, there is no end to the variety of fresh seafood you can indulge in during your vacation.  If you love the sweeter side of things, we have plenty of ways to cure that sweet tooth craving. Make a stop at Britt’s Donut Shop where fresh donuts have been churned out since 1939. Britt’s is truly a Carolina Beach tradition.
