This past Friday, April 26th, the NEW Ocean Front Park had their Grand Opening Celebration! Ocean Front Park, located at 105 Atlantic Avenue, is now open to the public and embraces the Carolina and Kure Beach antiquity. The all-day celebration included their official flag rising and ribbon cutting. Carolina Beach Elementary School 3rd grade class did an awesome performance! The festival provided Education Talks & Recreation Demonstrations. These talks and demos were about the local shipwrecks, civil war anchor& history, local fishing, ballet, yoga and zumba. The music had everyone dancing, tapping their foot and clapping their hands. South of K kicked off the music line up with a bluegrass sound. Next, The Imitation rocked the stage with popular, shagging, oldies. Wilmington Big Band, the final band, left the festival with a bang! Free Shag and Swing Lessons were provided by the one and only Babs McDance. Many participants took advantage of the free dance lessons and had it down pat to dance the night away. This day was such a fun day for the kids. The kids were fascinated with the Pirate Magicians from No Sleeves Magic. Story Time, Craft table and Treasure Chest of Surprised were also available for the kids. If that’s not enough, Disc golf and sumo wrestling were a hit for all ages! This was a prime time to be educated on the historical and storm water dune infiltration. Whether you attended by sitting in a beach chair, shagging on the dance floor, or participating the games; the grand opening of the Ocean Front Park was a success.
