So what if the azaleas faded early this year? That will not stop the fact this year’s 65th Annual North Carolina Azalea Festival is selected to be in the Top 20 Event for the months April – June by Southeast Tourism Society. The Southeast Tourism Society is the largest organization encouraging travel to the Southeast, since 1983. Ever quarter, STS selects the top 20 listing of prestigious events across the Southeast for each month. Not only is it an honor for the NC Azalea Festival to be picked, but the festival will enjoy widespread publicity. Over 300,000 locals and tourist crowd the area all week long for amazing occasions. Along with the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea Belles dressed in period hoop skirts, the festival’s signature events include the Garden Party in Airlie Gardens, concerts, a parade, juried art show, street fair, and a traveling circus. Country star and recent American Idol, Scotty McCreery and Kenny Loggins will be this year’s concerts. The street fair downtown will include exhibits, vendors, art and crafts, live entertainment and kid’s attractions. The weather for this weekend is going to perfect and beautiful for the non-profit civic organization! For 50 years, Wilmington has thrown the best party!
